SOLERNO Blood Orange Liqueur is made exclusively on the island of Sicily and brought to you by Master Distiller Lesley Gracie, also the creator of Hendrick’s Gin. SOLERNO is versatile as a base spirit as well as a modifying sweetener and shines equally in modern interpretations of classic cocktails, original creations, and Italian inspired aperitivi.

Each exotic blood orange is hand plucked at the height of its short growing season from sun drenched groves on the slopes of Mt. Etna. At the Agrumeria Corleone, where five generations of Sicilians have extracted prized essential citrus oils, the finest fruit is processed within 24 hours to maintain the fresh, ethereal nature of the oil.

The fresh essential oil of the blood orange is married with Italian lemon and a quality neutral spirit base, and then lightly sweetened with natural sugar at our facility. The perfectly balanced liquid is then packaged in a beautiful, Murano inspired glass bottle which flushes a deep red like the skin of the blood orange fruit.

Solerno Tasting Notes:

The nose bursts with whole-fruit blood orange, red berries, orange blossom, and a hint of bright lemon. The palate yields a velvety sweetness, balancing tartness, and the full body of an 80 proof spirit with a long, dry finish.

Jackie Patterson – National Solerno Ambassador

As a student at the San Francisco Art Institute, Jackie Patterson developed her passions for art and the world of service in parallel, although it took a chance event to discover her true calling. In 2006, while working as a cocktail server, she entered a local cocktail competition on a whim and to the surprise of everyone, she won. The membership to the tight-knit San Francisco chapter of the United States Bartender’s Guild (USBG) which was part of her winnings along with the sweet taste of competition were the catalysts in her pursuit of a career in craft cocktails.

Since that time, Jackie has been winning over judges and cocktail drinkers alike while making an international name for herself. She’s taken home numerous accolades including “USA Champion, West Coast” in the 2008 Marie Brizard Cocktail Competition (which took her to the finals in Bordeaux, France) and First Place—and sole U.S. representative—at the 2009 Cherry Heering Accessorize Competition in Singapore. Back home, she has won First Place and “Crowd Favorite” at San Francisco Magazine’s 2008 FallFest Eco-Cocktail Competition, in addition to placements in numerous other regional competitions.

As Jackie’s career has blossomed, so has her demand. Several Bay Area restaurants and bars, as well as numerous spirit brands, have sought out her skills to develop cocktails for them. That is, until the Summer of 2010 when her talents were noticed by acclaimed William Grant & Sons Portfolio Ambassador, Charlotte Voisey, who invited Jackie to bring her creative cocktail abilities to the illustrious WG&S brand ambassador team to work on the burgeoning Solerno brand.

A member of the USBG since 2006, Jackie regularly appears at national food and wine events, including the annual Tales of the Cocktail festival where she has presented seminars, hosted tasting rooms, and shaken thousands of cocktails. Jackie’s ongoing passion for all things spirits has garnered her media recognition in outlets such as Food & Wine, the San Francisco Chronicle, 7×7 Magazine, ABC Local News and The New York Times.

At the helm of this blog, Jackie hopes to bring her readers the true taste of Sicily through cocktail and food recipes, stories, images and inspiration from around the globe. She hopes you enjoy the journey with her.
